Restorex were privileged to be appointed to carry out extensive conservation repairs, structural alterations and refurbishment of the external fabrics of this pair of classical buildings in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town.
Objectives
To fully restore and conserve the external fabric of this large pair of Class B listed buildings. It was Important to carry out the full restoration process to a high standard, within budget and time constraints, whilst recognising the need for minimal disruption to the close neighbouring business and Ministerial buildings.
Description
- The designing, erecting and dismantling of significant areas of scaffolding, allowing access to carry out the following works.
- Extensive renewal of decorative and structural masonry
- Complete stripping of structural dormers and reforming roofs to traditional pitches
- Extensive re-slating
- Stripping and replacement of architectural lead work
- Timber repairs to windows and roofs
- Lightning protection system
- Renewal of specialist metalwork
- Refurbishment and decoration to all windows, doors and rainwater goods
Conclusion
The project managed to accomplish successfully practical completion on time and within budget . The Clients and the project design team were delighted at the quality of workmanship. The buildings are now looking rejuvenated, fresh and enhanced for the effort. It has been rewarding to have been involved in repairing and preserving an important part of Scotland's heritage.
