In May 2017, Restorex were appointed to carry out extensive repairs and refurbishment of the external fabrics of this Landmark class A listed building. Involving slating, Timber preservation, architectural lead work, masonry and rainwater goods .Objectives
To work with the design team, in successfully repairing and restoring the external fabric of this class A listed building. It was important to carry out the full restoration process, within budget and time constraints, whilst recognising the need for minimal disruption to the hotel as it maintained trading throughout the worksDescription
The erecting and dismantling of elevation and chimney scaffolding, allowing access to carry out the following works.
- Stone replacement.
- Rebuilding of chimneys
- Joinery repair and renewal
- Replacement and repair of cast rainwater and soil goods
- Overhaul off roof coverings
- Stripping and replacement of architectural lead work
- Installation of lightning protection system
Conclusion
Despite having to work around the busy Edinburgh festival and a large trading hotel, the project was successfully concluded in time and to the agreed budget. It was also a pleasure working alongside the design team and the principal contractor who were of positive assistance and instrumental to the project’s success.
