Chimney repairs and rebuilding Edinburgh
Inspection, repair and rebuilding of traditional stone and masonry chimneys, coordinated with slate, leadwork and roof access.
Resolving unstable masonry and water entry at the most exposed part of the building
Chimneys are exposed on every face and combine masonry, mortar, copes, pots, flashings and adjoining roof coverings. Open joints, cracked copes, displaced stone and failed weatherings can cause falling-material risks and allow water into the roof and internal fabric.
Restorex can undertake close inspection, local masonry repairs, lime pointing, cope and pot work, partial rebuilding or full controlled dismantling and reconstruction where required. The scope is based on condition and structural advice where instability is suspected.
Slate, lead flashings and roof junctions are completed in the correct sequence around the masonry. Safe scaffold access, temporary weather protection and public protection are planned as part of the job rather than separated from the repair decision.
Typical work
- Chimney condition inspection

How do I know if a chimney needs rebuilding?
Bulging, displacement, deep open joints, major cracking or unstable masonry may require rebuilding, but close inspection and sometimes structural advice are needed.
Can you repair the leadwork at the same time?
Yes. Restorex coordinates chimney masonry with flashings, soakers, gutters and adjacent slate.
Do you undertake emergency chimney work?
Emergency enquiries can be assessed according to risk, access and availability. Immediate exclusion or temporary safety measures may be required first.
Need a clear restoration proposal?
Tell us about the building, the problem and your timescale. Restorex will advise on the appropriate next step.
