Restorex expertise

A proportionate repair where sufficient sound stone remains

Mineral repair mortars such as Lithomex can reinstate locally weathered profiles without removing an otherwise serviceable stone unit. Suitability depends on the depth and position of decay, the stability of the remaining substrate and the exposure of the detail.

Restorex removes loose material, prepares sound edges and builds the repair in controlled layers in accordance with the selected system and project specification. Profiles are reformed using the surviving work, templates or agreed lines as reference.

Colour and texture are adjusted to sit coherently within the elevation, but appearance alone does not determine success. The repair must shed water, remain compatible with the substrate and avoid thin feathered edges or oversized patches likely to fail.

Frequently asked questions

Lithomex and mortar stone repair Edinburgh FAQs

Is Lithomex suitable for every damaged stone?

No. Deep, unstable or structurally significant loss may require a natural-stone indent or replacement rather than a mortar repair.

Can damaged mouldings be recreated?

Yes, where sufficient evidence remains to establish the intended profile and the substrate can support the repair.

Will the repair be invisible?

The aim is visual coherence and durable conservation, not falsifying the building’s age. New work may remain discernible on close inspection.
