Stone carving and dressing Edinburgh
Hand-dressed and carved natural stone for replacement mouldings, decorative features and conservation-led building repairs.
Reproducing the geometry, finish and craft of existing stonework
Historic buildings contain more than flat walling stone. Cornices, string courses, capitals, skew copes, finials, window surrounds and carved details all contribute to architectural character and often perform an important weathering function.
Restorex records the surviving profile or works from the agreed drawings and templates. Suitable stone is selected and worked to reproduce the required dimensions, mouldings, tooling and bedding orientation before installation within the prepared masonry.
Where detail is severely eroded, the final form should be agreed with the client’s architect or conservation adviser rather than invented on site. This creates a traceable repair that respects both the design and surviving historic evidence.

Can you copy an existing stone detail?
Yes. Surviving stone, templates, measured drawings and approved samples can guide the replacement.
Do you carve new decorative work?
Yes, where it forms part of the agreed repair or architectural scope and suitable design information is available.
Can replacement stone be finished to match old tooling?
Existing tooling and surface character are assessed so an appropriate hand or tooled finish can be specified.
